The Return of Beer Chess
THE ULTIMATE DRINKING GAME!
This article was originally pubished in the Sept. 1990 edition of ZuNews, a UMass humor newspaper. Some of you may remember it.
Beer Chess is chess played with beer as the pieces. Beer Chess is the unification of the intellectual with the inebriational. Beer Chess stimulates brain cells as you kill them. Beer Chess was created in 1990 by Matt Barstow and Steven Brykman during a weekend retreat at the McEnaney Estate in Jackman, Maine, thus making Jackman, Maine, the Beer Chess capital of the universe.
After two naps, an indeterminate number of bathroom breaks, and 20 minutes spent searching for his car keys (he eventually remembered he hadn’t driven), Steven emerged the victor — despite being a full 30lb lighter than his worthy opponent, and drinking ‘regular’ beer rather than light .
